Hayley and Matt’s Swynford Manor wedding took place at the start of June, although you would be forgiven for thinking it was early spring rather than summer. The day arrived with wind, rain and temperatures that felt far colder than anyone expected. But as is often the case with weddings, a little determination and a bit of luck won through in the end.
This was actually my first visit to Swynford Manor, despite it being relatively close to home for me. Situated just outside Newmarket, I had heard plenty of good things about the venue over the years, so I was excited to finally experience it for myself. It did not disappoint. Modern, elegant and beautifully designed throughout, it perfectly balanced luxury with a relaxed atmosphere.
When I arrived in the morning, Hayley was in bridal prep and already focused on one thing: she wanted her ceremony outside.
The venue team had sensibly prepared the indoor ceremony space as a backup. There was rain in the air and the forecast was far from convincing. However, when the registrars arrived, they took one look at the conditions and suggested that if the couple wanted an outdoor ceremony, they should go for it.
What followed was a slightly frantic but very impressive effort from everyone involved as staff transformed the outdoor ceremony space and made it look every bit as beautiful as the indoor setup. It was one of those moments where a wedding team really comes together to make something happen.
Thankfully, it paid off.
After the ceremony, photographer Faye Mendes and I immediately whisked Hayley and Matt away for portraits. Throughout the day we found ourselves constantly checking weather apps, watching the skies and trying to work out when the next shower would arrive. We knew that if we waited too long, the opportunity might disappear completely.
Luckily, we managed to carve out some time between the rain showers and they were fantastic to work with. Relaxed, up for anything and determined not to let the weather dictate the day.
Hayley and Matt first met while working together at Mercedes-Benz Loughton.
“We met through both of us working at Mercedes-Benz Loughton. He was a sales executive and I was a host.”
When it came to choosing their venue, Hayley already had a strong feeling about Swynford Manor.
“It had the vibe we wanted of luxury, elegance and fun. It also fit in with the colour scheme of monochrome and classic. We looked at three venues. I found this venue online a year before we even got engaged so was very excited to view it and then book it for our special day.”
Despite the wind, despite the rain, and despite spending most of the day trying to stay one step ahead of the forecast, Hayley and Matt’s Swynford Manor wedding was a brilliant celebration. The outdoor ceremony happened, the portraits happened, and most importantly, they got the day they wanted.
