Some wedding days come wrapped in sunshine, others come wrapped in grey October clouds and steady rain. Olivia and Charlie’s Hatfield Place wedding had the second kind, but honestly, it never took away from the atmosphere. If anything, it made the cosy parts even sweeter. We spent most of the day dodging showers and wiping raindrops off lenses, but by the afternoon the clouds finally opened just long enough for us to grab some beautiful outdoor portraits. A tiny weather win, but it felt like a big one at the time.
Olivia and Charlie’s story goes all the way back to 2011. They first crossed paths at a house party, although they did not speak that night. Olivia later messaged Charlie on Facebook to ask about an event at Rollerworld, which somehow turned into Charlie asking for her BBM pin. They chatted for over a year before having their first date in October 2012 at the Odeon in Colchester. They watched Paranormal Activity 4, which might not be the most romantic film on paper, but clearly it worked.
Their venue choice was just as thoughtful as their story. Charlie had seen Hatfield Place on Instagram years ago, long before the engagement. When they finally viewed it in person, it was the one that stood out. The modern feel of Hatfield Place captured their hearts instantly. It is one of those venues that looks timeless in any weather, even on a rainy autumn day.
They found me on Instagram too. “We found you on Instagram and loved your style of video and the natural filming. When we met you at the Hatfield Place open day, we thought you were very friendly and passionate and it made our decision easy to book you. I have loved watching your videos on Instagram whilst we have been waiting for our day.” Hearing things like this always means a lot. Natural and relaxed storytelling is exactly what I aim for, and it makes my job such a joy when couples connect with that style.
Rain or no rain, Olivia and Charlie’s Hatfield Place wedding was full of warmth, character and quiet, lovely moments. A day built on years of knowing each other, growing together and finally celebrating with all the people who matter most.
