As a wedding filmmaker, there are some days that just stick with you, not because of the weather (and this one was definitely on the chilly side) but because of the people, the atmosphere, and those little details that make a day completely unique. Jemma and Joel’s Baddow Park House wedding was exactly that.
Filming alongside my good friend and one of the best photographers out there, Tom Halliday, this October wedding was full of laughter, warmth, and personality. Jemma and Joel met on Hinge a few days into lockdown, one of those rare success stories that started with a swipe and turned into something special. “We matched in March and met in May… the rest is history,” as they put it.
After looking at seven venues, Baddow Park House was the one that felt right for them, and it turned out to be the perfect setting. Even on a cold day, it felt cosy and full of life, with the kind of atmosphere that makes you forget about the temperature completely. The team had lit the fire in the venue very early on in the day, and it’s such a clever trick…..the warmth of the fire is so welcoming as guests arrive. It’s a lovely touch.
One of my favourite details from the day was how much thought Jemma and Joel had put into their music. They created individual Spotify playlists for each stage of the wedding — from the arrival and ceremony to reception drinks and beyond. It’s such a simple idea, but it made everything flow beautifully and added a personal touch to every moment. Some playlists only had one or two songs, but it meant that at every turn, the music meant something to them both.
If you’re planning your own Baddow Park House wedding, take a page from Jemma and Joel’s book. Add little touches that feel personal to you, work with people who make the day fun, and don’t worry too much about the weather. The best days are the ones that feel authentic, and this one definitely did.
